Goodbye, 2016!

To quote Kylie Jenner, this year has been a year of, like, realizing stuff. I'm just kidding but in all seriousness I actually have found out a lot about myself, blogging and just life in general this year.

To think that I started off this year on a totally different course in a different part of the country, single and with only 1 year of blogging behind me is just crazy. I feel like I've really developed as a person and as a blogger and I'm actually pretty content with where my life is at at the moment, which is something I haven't been able to say for a while.

This year I decided to change course from a foundation degree in Media Production at Newcastle College to an honours degree in Media Studies at Teesside University, and I could not have made a better decision! Not only am I loving my course but I've also met the best bunch of friends for which I am so grateful and I'm very excited to see what the next 2 and a half years hold for me.

Another highlight of this year for me was my first festival. This August I went to V Festival and it was actually probably my highlight of 2016. I loved everything about it (except paying £6 for a cold, soggy bacon bun!) and can't wait to go again in 2017!

Speaking of V Fest.. This is actually where I got to know my now boyfriend and after that weekend we were pretty much official, so that's another reason why V Fest now holds a place in my heart and why 2016 has been a good year for me! Me and Jordan have already got so much planned for 2017 and I can't wait to spend more time with him and grow even closer than we already are, I'm learning a lot about being in a relationship and I think I've found a keeper!

Needless to say, another thing I've gained this year is another year of blogging experience! I had my first FROW experience, worked with some well established brands, upped my photography game (although I've still got a long way to go) and I just feel like I've developed my writing style and over all look, Just Lucy's Life has become a bit more 'me'. I've also learnt that you can't be perfect all the time, but instead imperfect is more perfect than trying to make everything the best it can be as life just doesn't work that way, and there will always be somebody better than you, but that's ok! Creating my own style along the way this year instead of trying to be exactly like the bigger bloggers I look up to was a big realisation this year. Always, do you!

That's pretty much it as far as 2016 goes. Reflecting back this has been a pretty great year and I'm hoping 2017 is going to be even better! I'm more determined than ever with my blog (and I'm also giving Youtube a go!) and I'm excited to see what 2017 brings me.

I wish you all a happy, healthy and amazing new year!

How I Spend Christmas Eve | Blogmas Day 24

I can't believe today is the last day of Blogmas! I'm really proud to say that I've kept Blogmas up and have blogged everyday of December in the lead up to Christmas, even with Uni deadlines and other Christmas plans going on! It's probably my biggest blog achievement of the year, yay me!

I've decided that I'm just going to have to blog twice a week starting January instead of just my usual once a week upload, I'd miss uploading so much after being so into creating content this month! Now to get on to my final Blogmas post....

Christmas is a holiday full of traditions and I'm always intrigued to hear how other people spend their Christmas Eve/Christmas. So today I'm going to give you a rough breakdown of how I've spent today getting ready for the big man himself's arrival!

11am - I woke up. This is the first Christmas Eve I haven't worked in 2 years so I was so appreciative of the lie in! I also woke up to a call from my Dad asking if I'd like a Costa bringing home and of course the answer was YES! A honeycomb latte and advent calendar chocolate with my breakfast this morning went down a treat!

12:30pm - I put the TV on and watched Despicable Me then Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone with my Dad. Christmas Eve is a movie day for me!

2:30pm - I skyped my boyfriend Jordan (as he's away with the RAF at the moment) and we spoke about things like how I've probably had too much coffee (maybe I should have got a medium...oops!) and what time we're going to skype tomorrow to open presents in front of each other.

4pm - Dad picked Callum up from work and we then went back to my Mum's, a few more presents in hand to give out to some of the family!

5pm - I made myself a bun which my Mum bought from the bakery this morning filled with some 'proper ham' which is basically our name for the fancy ham you get from Morrison's. Mum always gets 'proper ham' in for Christmas time. The bun was accompanied by some Treeslets (cheeselets in the shape of Christmas trees) and some of my Lindt teddy bear from today's door on my advent calendar.

6:30pm - I went round to my friend Grace's house so we could exchange Christmas presents. We only live down the road from each other so we normally give each other our presents on Christmas Eve!

8pm - I started to write this post. As I write this I'm currently in my Christmas pj's watching Christmas specials of The Simpsons with Callum and we're then going to watch the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special!

10pm - I'll be going upstairs with a cup of tea and putting The Santa Clause 2 on. I mentioned in my 5 top Christmas movies post that watching The Santa Clause 2 has become my own little tradition to watch before bed. It's just a lovely Christmas film and it gets me extra excited to wake up in the morning and open my presents before heading to my Aunty's for Christmas dinner.

That's how I've spent my Christmas Eve, how do you spend yours?

Thank you so much to all of you who's stuck around during Blogmas, I'm so pleased with how it's gone and I hope you've loved reading my daily posts as I loved writing them! I hope you all have the best Christmas and don't forget to leave a mince pie out for Santa!

My Time At The Christmas Body Shop Event | Blogmas Day 23

Yesterday the lovely ladies from The Body Shop in Middlesbrough invited me and a few other bloggers along down to the shop to show us their Christmas range.

The evening started off with some bucks fizz, mince pies and chocolate and selfies with Christmas props.

We then moved on to browsing the products. I didn't actually realise just how much The Body Shop had as far as make up goes, but after lusting over the many products and different shades, I've decided that I need to get some of the shadow sticks and a liquid lipstick or two next time I visit! They are gorgeous.

We then had a look at this year's Christmas range which consisted of loads of different products with either the scent vanilla chai, frosted berries or spiced apple. Spiced apple was definitely my favourite scent as it was fresh yet had a slight hint of cinnamon which made it very Christmassy, so I ended up going home with some of the body butter and hand cream in that scent to try. I also got a sample of the vanilla chai body butter as I just love the smell of vanilla.

Another thing that caught my eye was the shimmer mist. Not only did it smell amazing in each scent, it was just sooo pretty! I spent a good 5 minutes just shaking it as every time you shake it the shimmer swirls about inside the bottle and creates the prettiest pattern.

We were also lucky enough to receive a lovely goodie bag which consisted of a full size frosted berries shower gel, a mini Italian summer fig shower gel, a nail varnish in the shade Almond which is a lovely nude colour and the cutest polar bear bath sponge!

Thank you to The Body Shop for inviting me and for the fab goodie bag. If you're getting any last minute presents tomorrow then definitely head for The Body Shop's Christmas range, they would make lovely gifts!

Have you tried anything from The Body Shop's Christmas range?

Christmas Make Up Look | Blogmas Day 22

I asked you lovely lot on Twitter (@justlucyslife) what you'd like to see in today's post, and you chose a Christmas make up look!

This look just radiates all of the festive vibes you could wish for! If the super glittery gold eyes, the rosy cheeks and the red lipstick doesn't make you feel like Christmas then I don't know what will.

For my base I used Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Foundation along with Maybelline's anti-aging concealer for blemishes and under the eyes, Rimmel London's Stay Matte powder to set, Soap & Glory's Solar Powder to contour and add a bit of warmth to my face. I then used Benefit's Rockateur blush box and Mac's Yum Yum Yum for an extra rosy glow on my cheeks, and then finished off with my Colourpop highlighter in the shade Lunch Money.

For my eyebrows I used my current favourite eyebrow product which is Benefit's Precisely, My Brow pencil in the shade 3 for a sleek but quite natural look, and then moved onto eyeshadow!

For my eye make up I used quite a mix of shadows and products! For my transition shade I used Finish Sensual from Zoeva's Caramel Melange palette. I also used Wax Paper from this palette in my inner corner and on my brow bone, Almost Burnt all over my lid and Edible Gem in my outer corner. I then took my beloved Bon Bon's palette from Too Faced and used Almond on my bottom lash line to open up my eyes and make them more smokey, and Bordeaux in my crease. Then... it was time for glitter!

I actually created this sparkly explosion using 2 products from Tanya Burr's 12 days of Christmas advent calendar! I took the Treasured glitter liner and spread it across my lid to use as a kind of base, and then took the glitter pot in the shade Champagne Sparkle and dabs it across my lid so it stuck to then liner.

I finished off with my favourite red lipstick for this time of year which is So Good For You from Mac and my super festive 'Christmas Day' look was complete.

I'm so pleased with how this look turned out and am especially pleased with my eyes, I really feel like I'm finally upping my eyeshadow game!

What do you think of this festive make up look?

A Shopping Trip in York | Blogmas Day 21

For today's blogmas post I'm going to be writing something that I haven't written in a while and that's a good ol' lifestyle post. I love lifestyle posts as they're a bit more personal than reviewing a beauty product, but my love of make up has just taken over my posts recently!

I'm not sure when it first started but for the past few years me, my Dad, my brother and my cousin all created our own little tradition to take a trip to York for the day just before Christmas to have a day out and do a bit of shopping. I love York this time of year as all the decorations are so pretty, but I also love that it has a lot more shops and brands than we do in my local town.

Before we started we stopped off at Costa first and had a drink and bite to eat. I had the toasted marshmallow hot chocolate and a ham and cheese panini, and then it was time to shop! The shops I was most excited to visit were Jack Wills and Zara as I love their clothes, Fenwicks because of all the different beauty brands and Space NK as this was actually my first visit there.

In Space NK I was lusting after the Becca highlighters and the Hourglass ambient lighting edit. Once a lot of swatching had taken place, and my turned into a glittery ball of highlight, I decided that I might treat myself to the ambient lighting edit with any Christmas money I might get, as it was stunning!

I ended up coming home with a jumper from Jack Wills (which is made out of the cosiest material ever!), a new brow pencil from Benefit, a face mask and glitter hair scrunchy from Urban Outfitters (stay tuned for a review on the face mask as I've never seen anything like it!), some aftershave for my brother for Christmas, a Pandora ring for my Mum for Christmas, a super cosy ribbed jumper and leopard print shorts from Zara (stay tuned for an OOTD) and my very first YSL lipstick in the shade 47 - Biege Blouse which I am just in looove with!

I've had such a lovely day and I feel like some quality family time is just what I've needed recently!

Have you ever shopped in York?

Pandora Charm Wish List | Blogmas Day 20

Pandora Charm Wish List

This year I've asked Santa for a Pandora charm bracelet. I love Pandora and don't really know why I haven't thought of getting one of their charm bracelets before, but now that one is on my Christmas list, here's my Pandora charm wish list! I'm thinking of going with a rose gold and silver theme through my charm collection and I just think they're so cute and pretty! I think my favourite is the lucky elephant, the feather or the turtle!

Baking with Lucy: Salted Caramel and Chocolate Mug Cake | Blogmas Day 19

After I got so much good feedback from my festive rocky road recipe, I thought I'd show you all another treat that's absolutely delicious yet super easy and quick to make.

I actually used Wish Wish Wish's recipe for the mug cake half of this recipe, and then put my own little twist on it, so all credit goes to Carrie for the actual cake!

What you will need:

  • A mug
  • 2 TBSP cocoa powder
  • 4 TBSP flour
  • 4 TBSP sugar
  • 2 TBSP melted butter (or vegetable oil)
  • 3 TBSP water
  • 2 TBSP salted caramel
How to:
  1. Put your butter in the mug and melt it, then add the water. I found it was easiest to add the wet ingredients first and then add in the dry ingredients.
  2. Add in your flour, sugar and cocoa powder, and give it all a big stir!
  3. Make a dip in your mug cake, pushing the mixture to the sides of the mug and creating a dip in the middle.
  4. Add your salted caramel. I found 2 tbsp was just the right amount.
  5. Pop in the microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds - 2 minutes. This will depend on the power of your microwave but 1 minute 30 seconds worked well for me.
  6. Grab a spoon and enjoy!
And it really is that simple and quick to make a super chocolatey mug cake with a salted caramel twist. Your salted caramel should go over the top of the cake as well as in the dip, meaning you get a coating on every spoonful, yum!

Let me know if you decide to try this mug cake out for yourselves, it's Christmas so you have an excuse to have a chocolatey treat!

MAC x Mariah Carey | Blogmas Day 17

If you haven't heard of Mac's latest collaboration with Mariah Carey then where have you been?! This has been such a highly anticipated collaboration from Mac and now it's here, beauty lovers have got a lot more sparkle in their lives!

I'm talking about the packaging, of course, as Mac have totally slayed the game with the absolutely stunning silver glitter packaging that features throughout the collection. I'm in love!

Although it was hard to pick, I'm on a budget as Christmas is just round the corner so I decided to treat myself to the MCizzle lipstick. It looked like such a gorgeous brown-toned nude and probably the most wearable out of the collection. I also just could not miss out on having that glittery packaging with a rose gold rim taking a spot on my lipstick stand.

MCizzle is a cremesheen finish lipstick that's a lovely rosy peach colour with warm undertones. Dahhlinggg! Also looked tempting but it was a little too pink for me. I absolutely love the colour of this lipstick and I can see myself getting a lot of wear out of it! It's probably the closest nude I have to my skin tone now meaning it looks nice and subtle yet still adds a bit of life to your lips.

Cremesheen finishes are also my fave as they're so moisturising, which is definitely helpful this time of year! I also adore the butterfly imprint on the lipstick itself, such a cute touch!

I'm so glad I treat myself to MCizzle and I will forever be amazed by it's packaging in all it's glittery glory!

Did you get anything from Mac's Mariah Carey collab? If not, what would you treat yourself to if you could?
