Turtle Bay comes to Middlesbrough!

Earlier this week I was invited down to a new addition right in the heart of Middlesbrough - Turtle Bay!

If you haven't heard of Turtle Bay before then it's a Caribbean inspired restaurant that serves food full of flavours that are guaranteed to tickle your taste buds and dreamy cocktails that I just couldn't get enough of! Having never tried Turtle Bay before I was really excited to see what they had to offer.

The design of the restaurant was the first thing that I loved, it's covered in fairy lights and has a real rustic feel inside. With a reggae theme running throughout the restaurant, there's a circular bar full of all kinds of different rums imported from the Caribbean along with other spirits and liqueurs and a grill bar at the back where you can see the jerky chicken being grilled in front of your eyes. It has a really nice feel to it, especially as it gets dark and the fairy lights light up the border!

On arrival we were greeted to a complimentary cocktail which carried on throughout the evening, my favourite was definitely the vanilla and passionfruit mojito but I loved every one I tried (which was about 6, oops!). We then made our way over to a table and sat down, cocktail in hand, ready to try some Caribbean food.

Most of the food we tried was quite new to the Turtle Bay menu and was exclusive to the Boro branch which is quite exciting! The first tray that was brought out was a sharing platter, one meat and one veggie, and contained things like jerk chicken wings, bbq ribs and sweetcorn fritters which were lovely and definitely got everyone for the next dish.

Next up was curries. I'm not normally one for spicy food but each dish had just the right kick to it and definitely tingled the taste buds. It was all bursting with flavour. We were then treat to a full jerk chicken along with sides of rice and sweet potato fries which were a huge hit across the table. And the best was still yet to come...

As they are set to open in Middlesbrough Turtle Bay had created a one-off special which was a Caribbean version of a Parmo! This definitely got everyone very excited as if you didn't already know, a Parmo is Boro's delicacy. Typically a Parmo is breaded chicken with bechamel sauce and lots of melted cheese on top, but Turtle Bay's version featured a jerk BBQ sauce and freshly grilled chicken with bechamel and I have to say, I loved it.

After that it was the last dish which was of course dessert. The dessert tray was filled with cakes including mini brownies (which were my fave!), banoffee cheesecake, raisin sponge cake and pineapple. Each one melted in the mouth and I can't wait to try a full size dish next time.

With 2 for 1 cocktails and yummy food like that I can see Turtle Bay becoming a huge success in Middlesbrough and I'll definitely be visiting again soon. Even if it doesn't sound like your thing it's probably still worth a pop down as I'm quite fussy with food but loved every dish, so it's good if you're looking to try something new.

Turtle Bay will be open to the public in Middlesbrough this Sunday! (23rd April).

Have you ever been to Turtle Bay before?

Baking With Lucy: Creme Egg Cupcakes (With A Surprise Centre!)

Today I've got another Baking with Lucy post for you all, and let me tell you, it's a good'n! As it's Easter this weekend, what better cupcakes to make than Creme Egg flavoured ones?! These cupcakes are for those of you who like to pick up your oven gloves every now and then but are no expert, like me. These cakes are as easy as, well.. a piece of cake, but they seem like you've made loads of effort.

What you will need:
  • Chocolate cake mix (I used Betty Crocker Devil's Food cupcake mix) + suggested ingredients to add in.
  • Icing sugar
  • Butter
  • 1 packet of mini creme eggs
  • Yellow food colouring
  • 2 large mixing bowls
  • 1 regular bowl
  • Electric whisk
  • Cupcake cases (they come with the Betty Crocker cupcake mix)

So the first step is really easy and that's baking the actual cakes. The instructions on the Betty Crocker cake mixture are really simple and you only need to add eggs, vegetable oil and water so the mixture is made in minutes. Once the cakes are fully baked, leave them out to cool.

Once the cupcakes are fully cool then take a knife and cut out the middle (go down about half way through the cupcake), this is where our surprise creme egg creme centre is going. I've tried this recipe 2 ways; you can either scrape out the creme from creme eggs and put that in the centre, or you can make another version with icing which is what I did the second time. To make the centre yourself then simply make 2 sets of icing, leaving one white and dying the other part yellow, then put a dollop of each creamy goodness into the middle of all your cupcakes, making a cake version of a creme egg.

Then to finish off, whip up some chocolate buttercream icing. I used the mixture from the cake mix but you can also make some using cocoa powder and butter. Ice your cupcakes and then unwrap your mini creme eggs. Chop each one in half and place on top to decorate.

And it's as easy as that! A quick and easy bake for Easter that's super indulgent and full of creme egg goodness.

Will you be trying out this recipe?

New Spring Scents with Fragrance Direct

Spring is one of my favourite seasons. I love the fresh faced make up looks, the warmer, sunny weather, the spring collections and of course, some fresh scents!

Last week the lovely people over at Fragrance Direct asked me if I'd like to try some of their new releases for Spring/Summer '17, and of course the answer was YES PLEASE! Within a few days 3 new scents arrived at my door; Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh Kiss, Calvin Klein One Summer '17 edition and Escada Fiesta Carioca.

Although Spring scents can be quite floral I prefer more fresh or fruity scents, so I was relieved when I loved all of these dreams of fragrances as I'm quite picky when it comes to perfumes. Each one is either fresh or has a fruity tone to it and just scream 'Summer is coming!' to me.

The freshest fragrance out of the bunch has got to be Calvin Klein's CK One Summer '17 edition. Not only does the sea blue colour and sun ray design on the bottle make you feel like you're holding a Summer day in a bottle, the undertones of lime, citron and cucumber provide the freshest of scents and I have to admit it's the one I've been reaching for the most out of the 3. On Fragrance Direct's website it's described as 'Bright, Energetic and Fresh' and that honestly hits the nail on the head! It also smells a bit like aftershave to me but more feminine which I love.

Moving to the other end of the spectrum we have Escada's Fiesta Carioca. A few years ago one of my friends was obsessed with Escada but I haven't really heard of the name since, so receiving this perfume was quite nostalgic for me. If you like a fruity scent then this is for you. Fiesta Carioca contains notes of passion fruit, raspberry and orange flower making it a fruity dream! I feel like this is going to be lovely on holiday is it will go hand in hand with sunny weather and cocktails.

And last but definitely not least I got a bottle of Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh Kiss. First of all, prettiest packaging ever! Marc Jacobs' Daisy range is something that's been running for years, and I've always loved the thought of having one of the pretty, floral bottles making my dressing table look extra pretty but I've never quite found a scent I liked as they've always been too floral for me, but as the name suggests this one is lovely and fresh! With notes of mandarin leaf, blackcurrant, pink pepper, peony, cherry blossom and pink rose this fragrance has just the right balance between fresh and a hint of floral. I can see this becoming a favourite of mine!

Thank you so much to Fragrance Direct for letting me try these products, I know I'll be using them all through Spring and Summer! If you want to check Fragrance Direct out for yourselves then you can do here. They have some amazing deals which is fab if you're a student like me or just love a bargain! They even do free delivery on orders above £20.

What's your go-to scent at the moment?

Benefit's New Blush Box | GALifornia

Benefit have done it again with the launch of their STUNNING new GALifornia blush.

Benefit blush boxes are one of my all time fave formulas for blush, Rockatuer was one of my first high end buys! Their pigmentation is just on point with it being pigmented yet build-able, which is just what you want in a blush, isn't it?!

The other day when shopping with my boyfriend I spotted that Debenhams were now stocking Benefit's brand spanking new release GALifornia with 10% off! So obviously I picked it up straight away and I couldn't wait to get home and try it.

First of all, if you're looking for a coral blush then you need this blush in your life! The golden sun design printed within the product and the warm coral tone gives the perfect pop of coral on your cheeks and gets you ready for Summer. Having fair skin I was a bit worried that this would be too bright for me but it looks lovely, especially teamed with bronzer and golden highlighter.

It smells quite sickly sweet which, if I'm being honest, can be a bit too much for me, but obviously make up is to be worn not smelt so I can get past that for the gorgeous results! One of the things I love the most about Benefit is their packaging, they just get it right every time, and GALifornia is definitely up there with one of my all time favourites. Featuring a girl wearing sunglasses and a gorgeous baby blue and coral design it looks super pretty in my make up collection and just screams Summer! It even includes a little mirror inside and a brush which is handy if you're on the go as I actually love Benefit blush brushes.

If you're thinking about trying out Benefit's new GALifornia blush then I'd definitely recommend it, it seems like a blush that would suit so many skin tones which is fab too!

Have you ever tried any of Benefit's blush boxes?
