How I Got My Blonde Hair HEALTHY Again

Blonde girls will feel me when I say that being blonde can be a challenge sometimes! Although roots aren't a massive problem for me with my hair being quite fair naturally, the damage that comes with bleach was something I struggled to keep on top of resulting in a big, dry, blonde mess. Keep on reading to find out how I got it soft and healthy again..

I first started getting blonde highlights when I was around 15 and my hair stayed in really good condition without me trying up until I was about 18. At 18 it started getting really dry, ratty and it was starting to snap off at the ends. I've always loved my hair long and getting a big chop was something I didn't want to do so I just kept getting a bit off each hairdressers trip but it didn't do much. Then a few years later my hair was in the worst condition it had ever been in. It didn't even brush through properly, it just frizzed and felt like straw no matter how many hair masks I used.

So then I decided it was time for the dreaded chop, it was the only way to get my hair back to good condition! Trust me I know it's crap losing your long hair but growing it out and having it healthy again is so worth the wait. I got pretty much half of my hair cut off the first go, then let it grow out a bit then got a chunk off again. I wanted my long hair back but I knew it would be worth the wait and it only took about 6 months to grow it back long again. I also got it really blunt at the ends which made it look thicker and made sure all the snapped off bits were cut off.

I hadn't heard of Wellaplex until my usual salon started offering it, and after just one use I knew it would be something I'd get next time. Basically Wellaplex is a solution added into your colour mixture, meaning it conditions as it dyes. Especially for blondes I would 100% recommend getting this treatment. It can be £10/£20 extra but it's so worth it for the amazing condition it's left my hair in. As it's so healthy it's also started growing back faster than it usually does, so that's a huge bonus.

A product I like to use outside the salon is one by L'Oreal called the Elvive Extraordinary Oil. Just 3-4 pumps of this miracle oil will have your hair feeling super soft and well conditioned. You can use it on dry hair to soften and style, but I like to use it when I'm just out the shower on damp hair as it makes my hair dry in lovely condition. It's one of those products where it leaves your hair so soft you just want to stroke it, you get me?

This was a step I always used to miss in my hair routine as I just thought they won't even work that much anyway so it doesn't really matter, but girls, it matters! I don't put much heat on my hair anyway but it definitely isn't good for your hair. Using a good heat protector will always ensure your hair stays as healthy as it can while still being styled with heat. I personally like to use this one by Bumble & Bumble or for a more affordable option the Tresemme bottle.

So those are my top tips on getting gorgeous, healthy, golden locks! Following these steps has made my hair so much thicker, longer and healthier. So if you have blonde hair like me I'd definitely recommend you follow them too.

What are your top tips for keeping coloured hair healthy? I'd love to hear any more recommendations!
