My Best Makeup Tips For A 9-5 Gal

13 August 2019

About a week ago I started my first graduate job as a Marketing Assistant, and the adjustment from uni student to 9-5 has been a pretty big one! One of the biggest changes, however, is that I'm now applying my make up every morning to last all day. I'll be honest, you were lucky if you caught me with mascara on at uni! But I think I've cracked the 9-5 make up, take a look...

Urban Decay Setting Spray

An absolute essential if you want your make up to last all day! I always spritz this on a morning and I find that I rarely have to touch up my make up during the day. In fact, I even took this picture below after a day's work just to prove how much this really works! It's especially good for hot days in the office but it's also just great for lasting for long shifts and early mornings. It's also quite refreshing to wake you up on a morning.

I always find that a good lipstick makes you feel more put together and ready for the day. As the saying goes.. "give a girl the right lipstick and she can conquer the world". I tend to go for a Charlotte Tilbury lipstick as I find they last the longest and are moisturising at the same time, but Mac is also a strong favourite. The shade normally depends on my mood and the weather. At the moment I've been going for a nude combo of Kylie Cosmetic's lip liner in Coconut and Charlotte Tilbury's lipstick in JK Magic, or Charlotte Tilbury's Glowing Jen which I find adds a really healthy pop of colour to my face without being too much.

Blush is another make up step that I've been really loving to create put together and fresh look. For a matte blush I go for Kylie Cosmetics We're Going Shopping, and for a more glowy, fresh-faced look I always pick up Nars' Orgasm.

Setting Powder

I always make sure I have some setting powder with me and a little powder brush just to keep in my bag! Some days I don't even reach for it but it's just nice to know that if you're a little oily or your base has worn off a little bit you have it there to freshen up and you're good to go for the rest of the day!

Light Bronzed Eye Shadow

A new step that I've added to my morning make up routine since starting 9-5 is a subtle bronzed eyeshadow. It takes two seconds but adds so much to the look and makes you look like you've made more of an effort. I normally apply my bronzer to the whole lid and my crease and then go over that with the 'Kim' shade from the ABH Master Paletter by Mario.

Straight Line Eyeliner

This is a great tip for if you want to go for a bit more of a glam look but don't have the time to stress over making sure your wings are even (or if you're like me and would just prefer an extra 5 minutes in bed). Instead of creating a wing, try just taking a black liner and running a single straight line over your eyelid. This draws more attention to the eyes and makes them appear more open, without looking like you're about to hit the town.

I hope you enjoyed these tips to help your make up look bangin' all day long. Let me know in the comments if you are going to use any of these or if you have any tips of your own!

  1. I start my graduate job next month and I've been wondering how I'm going to make my makeup last all day! Definitely going to give the Urban Decay Setting Spray a try x

  3. I love your makeup look. It looks so natural but like you're really well put together. I never wear makeup for work as I sometimes can't be bothered with waking up early as I notoriously spend forever putting my makeup on. However, this look seems super simple to create and I reckon I could put it together quickly. Thank you for sharing!x
