The Best Ingredients to use in your Skincare Routine this Winter

17 November 2021

Rose

Rose is one of my all time favourite ingredients to use in skincare, it just works miracles on my combo skin! Rose is a very balancing ingredient so it balances your oils, inflammation and irritation, while also providing the most amazing glowy, nourishment. Some of my favourite products include the Rose Hydrate Radiance Day Cream from Super Facialist and Ro's Argan from Lush, especially for tan days where I want everything to go on smoothly and seamlessly.

Hyaluronic Acid

Unless you've been living under a rock then you'll of definitely heard of this ingredient. It's all over skincare adverts and is even advertised for being used in makeup now, and with good reason. Hyaluronic acid provides intense hydration while also firming the skin and providing a natural plumpness, so basically if you don't know, then get to know! My current faves are the Super Facialist Firming Night Cream, and The Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid in a bottle as this has a super watery texture meaning it sinks right into the surface of your skin that a cream wouldn't reach, and you can also put this on before your moisturiser for an added boost.

Vitamin C

Cold weather got your skin looking a little tired, dull & basically like you need an extra large toffee nut latte from starbs? - Same! I like to use Vitamin C all year round as it gives a gorgeous glow, but in the winter months especially it gives a bit of life back to your dry skin. A favourite of mine is the Vitamin C spray from The Body Shop, as it's a spray I can top up and spritz through the day keeping my glow going.

Glycolic Acid

Talking about dry, dull skin... if you feel like you need to set refresh on your skin then Glycolic Acid is your new bestie! This acid gently exfoliates and peels back the very top layer of your skin, meaning it takes the dull dead skin away and reveals a fresh shiny new layer. However - HUGE WARNING - do not use this everyday! For one, your skin doesn't need it, but also using this ingredient too much will irritate and damage your skin, it is still an acid after all, so I'd recommend using it 2-3 times a week at the most. I usually use the Nip + Fab Glycolic Acid Fix pads around twice a week, once on a weekday and once at the weekend.

I hope this gives you some inspiration on switching up your routine for the colder months. Trust me, your skin will thank you for it!
