A Reflection on 2015 & Aims for 2016!

Ok, seriously, where has 2015 gone?! I don't know about you but this year seems to have flown by for me.

2015 has been an alright year. Not an amazing one but not a bad one either. However, I feel like a lot has changed this year. I finished my apprenticeship, started studying media production at uni, some of my closest friends moved away, I've made some new friends and after years of having light blonde hair, half of my hair is now brown! (Ok, so that last one wasn't that much of a big deal but it's a huge change for me!)

If I look back on 2015, one thing really stands out to me. At the beginning of the year I felt like I was in a really good place. I was confident in what I was doing and I was happy within myself. I was so sure of myself. Fast forward a few months and I found myself in a relationship. My first serious relationship. My first love? Maybe, but it was definitely my first experience of love. Fast forward again, this time 6 months later, and I started to go through my first proper break up. My heart was broken and in all honesty, it still is a little bit. After the break up I felt kinda lost and I didn't realise how much a break up could throw you off balance. I just didn't feel like myself anymore, I didn't really care about much anymore.

However, I'm definitely starting to pick myself back up now. Fall 7 times, stand up 8, right? And everything happens for a reason. So with this in mind, here are my aims for 2016:

  1. My number 1 aim for 2016 is to get myself back to the person I used to be. I want to be that confident, independent girl again (who don't need no man).
  2. I want to put a lot more time and effort in to this blog. I'm proud of myself for keeping this up for a year without a second thought, but I really want to improve the quality of my content.
  3. I want to be an all-round more positive person. Positive mind, positive vibes.
  4. I really want to try in my uni work, meaning not falling behind and actually coming out with a decent grade!
  5. I want to interact with bloggers more on social media more! This might seem like a bit of a weird one but I love things like blogger Twitter chats, I feel like they really help the blogger community to support one another and it can also help build some great friendships!
  6. I need to get back to eating more healthier. I've been pretty good at it this year but then uni and Christmas happened.
  7. Finally, and this is probably my biggest aim, I really want to be able to call myself an award winning blogger by the end of the year. I know that's hugely ambitious but I figure why not just go for it? Even if I'm just nominated or shortlisted for an award I'll still be super happy!
And speaking of blog awards.. I've just entered the UK Blog Awards. It's a long shot but why not? Voting starts 4th January so I'll be releasing a link to my voting page then!

I've just entered the UK Blog Awards #UKBA16

So those are my aims for 2016, what about you? Let me know in the comments I'd love to hear!

I hope you've all had a great year and here's to a better 2016!

Christmas Day Outfits '15

Ok, so first of all, I'd like to apologise for not posting in a few weeks! Long story short, I underestimated how much Uni deadlines would take over my life. Sadly this meant that I had to prioritise my work and push the blog posts aside. I've found it quite annoying as I had lots of Christmas blog posts planned out but I just haven't had the time to do them. Oh well, lesson learnt for next year I guess!

Anyway, since tomorrow (23rd) is the last day to order things online to get your order in time for Christmas, I've decided to squeeze an outfit post in! So, if you're still looking for that perfect Christmas outfit then just carry on reading.

1. In The Style - £32.99. I love this rose gold sequin dress. It's perfect if you're going on a night out this Christmas! I'm even considering buying it for New Year's Eve.

2. Topshop - £40. Are you noticing my obsession with rose gold coming through? I love this top, it's the perfect glam top for Christmas and I love the two-tone look.

3. Topshop - £60. After seeing this in one of Youtuber Zoe Sugg's vlogs, I just had to include this dress! It looked amazing on Zoe and is a lovely christmassy dress with the green sequins.

4. ASOS - £22.50. If you prefer to go for a more cosy option on Christmas then this one's for you. I think I first saw this jumper on Tanya Burr and I fell in love with it. It's the perfect Christmas jumper, cosy yet stylish.

5. Topshop - £42. I think this top is the perfect smart casual option for Christmas. Pair with jeans during the day and a bodycon skirt on the night.

I hope you enjoyed this post and that it has given you some inspiration. Let me know which is your favourite option in the comments below!

Gift Guide for Girls Under £10

First of all, I can't believe it's December! Say whaaat? This year seems to have flown by for me and I can't believe we're now in the last month of 2015, crazy!

Second of all, December only means one thing...we're officially on the countdown to CHRISTMAS! I loved writing Christmas themed posts last year and am excited to get started with them again this year. So, I decided to take to twitter (@justlucyslife) to create a poll asking you which Christmas related posts you liked reading the most and the clear winner was gift guides/ideas. So, here's my first gift guide!

Now that I'm a student again I'm definitely having to budget for presents this year, which is why I thought this guide would be perfect for those of you in a similar situation. I'm going to show you some perfect present ideas for girls, whether that be for a friend or family member, and they're all under £10, BONUS!

1. I have loved Tanya Burr's collection ever since it first launched, but I think her Christmas collection this year are my favourite products of hers so far. Here I've chosen her small gift sets in Toasted Marshmallow and Sugar Plum (how cute are those names?! ) and her nail kit. The Nail Polish sets are just £4 each and the Nail Kit is £6. So reasonably priced and not to mention beautifully packaged!

2. Soap and Glory are always a favourite at Christmas, I always seem to end up with something from that brand mixed in my Christmas presents. However, I'm definitely not complaining about that. Retailing at £10 exactly I think Soap and Glory sets are the perfect little pamper gift to give at Christmas.

3. LUSH. You can't go wrong with LUSH. They do the best products at Christmas and they even make little Christmas boxes for £9.95 which include bath bombs, bath melts, bubble bars and more. Plus, they're already gorgeously wrapped so it saves you the job!

4. 2 years ago one of my best friends got me a Christmas Starbucks mug and it's still one of my favourite presents I've received to date. I just love using my Starbucks mug at this time of year (especially for hot chocolate), it makes me feel all warm and festive. This mug is £8.50 and comes with chocolate, what's not to love?

5. This last one's a bit of a unique idea I think. I'm obsessed with my polaroid camera and I love taking pictures to put up on my wall, but if you don't have a polaroid camera then this is the next best option! You can go on a website called Polargram and create your own polaroids from Instagram pictures for just over £5 to get printed out which you can then give as a very personal and lovely gift to a friend or family member. Love!

So there's my first Gift Guide for Christmas this year. Did you find this useful? And what other Christmas related blog posts would you like to see on my blog? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to hear any requests!

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara | Review

After hearing so many bloggers and beauty guru's rave about one of Maybelline's latest mascara's, Lash Sensational, I just had to try it out for myself and see what all the hype was about.

I'm quite picky when it comes to mascaras, if it doesn't give a full effect then I won't pick it up again. So, when I first went to try Lash Sensational, there was only one question on my mind. Will this match up to Maybelline's Volum' Express mascara? (Which was my holy grail mascara.)

The answer to that question? In short, yes! In long, keep on reading!

The first thing I liked about this mascara was that it has a plastic brush with small, thin bristles. I find these the best type of wand as it gives a more full and dramatic effect as opposed to a more fluffy texture where the end result is normally quite thin and more subtle. Not that there's anything wrong with a subtle look at all, it's just in mascara I prefer a big difference!

Another thing I loved was that the brush has lots of different lengths of bristles and it's also shaped in a curve which matches your eye shape perfectly meaning you can reach every little lash and the mascara reaches all the way to the end of your lashes.

Here are two pictures I took to show how much of a difference this mascara makes. Please excuse my eyebrows, but you can see straight away how much volume it adds and how much it opens out my eye!

Overall I love this product and can definitely see why so many beauty guru's love it! Still not sure if it has over taken Maybelline's Volum' express mascara but I've re-purchased so that must mean something!

What's your favourite mascara? I'm always interested to try out more so let me know in the comments!

Happy 1st Birthday Blog!

So, Just Lucy's Life (which originally started out as ohheyitsjustlucy) has officially been up and running for 1 whole year now, Happy Birthday to me!

I can't believe I've actually stuck to (quite) regular posts for over a year now, I'm normally the type of person to start a hobby with the best intentions but then never really carry through. However, I haven't lost my love for blogging yet, if anything it's just got stronger!

4. My holy grail foundation is Revlon's Colourstay, I've been wearing it for about 4 years now.

5. I prefer a rainy day to a sunny one, typically British I know!

6. I've outraged some people when I've said this before but I prefer the Two and a Half Men episodes with Ashton Kutcher in rather than Charlie Sheen, 'cause ya know... Ashton Kutcher.

7. I have 1 and a half sugars in my tea, I've cut down from 3 but I think that's as far as I'm going to get.

16. My favourite city is New York. I went there last year and have been longing to go back ever since.

17. Even though I don't really go that much, I love the Theatre.

18. I don't really know exactly what job I want to do when I'm older, all I know is that I want a job that will always bring me new and exciting opportunities, not the same thing every day.

19. If I could be anyone for the day I'd be Ariana Grande, she's beautiful and I wouldn't stop singing.

20. 2 of my closest friends live about 300 miles away from me, and it sucks. A lot.

21. Some of my favourite Youtubers include Tyler Oakley, Zoella, Tanya Burr, Andrea Russett, Bethany Mota, Lauren Curtis and Freddy My Love.

22. I'm a cat person. (As in I prefer cats to dogs, not that I'm half human half cat)

Thank you to those of you who already read my blog and I hope that Just Lucy's Life will continue to grow!

Glitter Lips | Review

This Saturday I walked into work with normal make up and came out with super eye-catching glitter lips!

Glitter lips are something that I've never really heard of before now. Kiwi Boutique's (Yarm) residential beautician Jo Gaythorpe was the lady who introduced me to them. Glitter lips are a new treatment that are available at Kiwi, it's £3 for a try or £12.99 for a kit for yourself. The kit can give approx. 25 applications and comes with an applicator, a pot of adhesive and, of course, a pot of glitter in your chosen colour. As a treat, Jo let the Kiwi girls have a try of the fabulous Glitter Lips for ourselves!

After some um-ing and ah-ing, I decided to go with the colour 'Ultra Glam'. It's a lovely lilac shade and holds the type of glitter that presents all the colours of the rainbow when caught in the light.

Glitter Lips are applied in an easy 3-step process. After you've picked your colour, all you have to do is:

1. Apply adhesive glue (which just feels like lipgloss!) and wait until almost clear in colour.
2. Dab a slightly dampened applicator into the glitter and dab onto lips.
3. Brush off any excess glitter with small brush.

And it's as easy as that!

One of my favourite things about this treatment (and is something that I can definitely vouch for!) is that it lasts for up to 8 hours! You can eat and drink and there'll still be no need to top up. I got my Glitter Lips at about lunch time and they were still pretty much the same when I was going to bed after 2 meals and a few drinks. I think this makes Glitter Lips the perfect thing for Christmas parties or even Christmas day itself.

To remove Glitter Lips it's suggested to use an oil-based remover such as baby oil, but I found that a Simple make-up wipe did the trick just fine!

If there's one thing that I've learnt as I've gotten more and more into beauty, it's that experimenting with make-up can be really fun and sometimes the more 'out-there' looks are the one's I love the most!

Have you ever tried Glitter Lips? If not, would you? Let me know in the comments!

That Winter Coat.

We all have one. That one trusty coat that we have to take us through the cold and brittle weather that is the Winter season.

My last winter coat from Topshop has lasted me a solid 3 years but I've worn it so much that it just looks battered and worn out now, not a good look! So I went on the hunt to find myself the perfect new winter coat and I'm so pleased with what I found!

Since my last coat from Topshop served me so well, I decided it was probably a good idea to start there in my search. Little did I know that my search would only go as far as that!

As soon as I walked in my eyes fell on this beauty and as soon as I tried it on I knew I just had to have it!

It's double-lined meaning that it will keep me super warm when I'm waiting in cold train stations going to and from Uni. It's also got the cosiest hood! Seriously, I could probably use it as a pillow, I love it!

You can detach the fur if you want but I think I'll be keeping it on most the time, even if it does fall over my face sometimes!

I also love that it's got the fur lining at the sides but not all the way round. Don't get me wrong I don't like being cold but I think if the fur was all over the inside I would just get too warm.

This coat ticks all the boxes for me. It's khaki so it will go with pretty much everything, I adore the fur detail, it's got huge pockets (that will probably soon be filled with random junk, oopsie!) and the main thing is that it's honestly just soo comfy! When I first got it I just sat in my room with it on for hours because I found it so cosy.

I'm also so pleased to be getting some high quality photo's up on this blog, it's about time right? All credit goes to my friend Ross who took them all and who also showed me this cute little park in Newcastle. It's such a hidden gem and a lovely place to walk about, like a smaller version of central park!

Sorry if I look a bit moody in these pictures, I'm still getting used to the whole 'blogger's pose' thing! There are a few of me laughing but only because the wind was blowing my hair everywhere! Haha. Girls with long hair will understand my pain when the weather's slightly windy!

However, even if I am a bit awkward in front of the camera, I'm still so glad that I've gotten round to doing an 'OOTD' style post. I've been meaning to do more posts like this but student life has hit hard so no new clothes for me for a while! *thumbs down emoji*

But at least that's my winter coat sorted! It was £98 which I think is quite a lot to splash out on but if you get the use out of it then it's definitely worth it! What about you? What's your trusty winter coat like?

Middlesbrough No7 Blogger's Event

On Friday I was very kindly invited to attend a Blogger's Event held by the lovely ladies at No7 in Boots. I was excited for this event as I'd heard the previous one was fab, and I was definitely not let down!

On arrival we were introduced to our three hosts from the No7 counter and were offered a selection of cakes and drinks including tea, coffee and juice.

We were then presented No7's latest body care collection. I'd already tried their 'Beautiful Skin' moisturiser before and loved it, so I was excited to see what this collection included as it is part of their 'Beautiful Skin' range.

They had a mixture of moisturisers, scrubs and even a milk which apparently is something No7 have never done before! The products all hold a gorgeous smell which is sweet and floral yet subtle. I think that's great because if a smell is too overpowering it sometimes puts me off the product.

No7 have also gone for some new branding techniques including their fab new packaging designs.

They've gone for the neutral colours of grey and lemon meaning that it will look more appealing to a wider range of customers.

This is also a point that our hosts made was that the beauty brand are working their way towards reaching a younger audience as well as their more mature customer. They want people to see that there is something for everyone at No7!

One thing that I'd heard about and had always wanted to try was the colour match service that they offer, so of course I jumped at the chance to get it done on Friday!

Although I already have my holy grail foundation (Revlon Colourstay) I am always open to trying new foundations out so I decided to give the Airbrush Away Foundation a go.

The machine matched my skin tone to the foundation shade 'calicco' which was of course the lightest shade (#ghostforever) and then told me which colour blushers I should use. There were about 3 colours which were all quite bright pink's. I've always thought that I suit bright pink blush's the best so I was glad the machine agreed with me!

I think this piece of technology is brilliant, it can tell you which colour foundation, blusher and even lipstick you should be wearing. Genius!

Another part of the event was being shown all the sparkly Christmas stuff that is now out from No7. There was a whole counter full of Christmas gifts that come with a 3 for 2 deal.

I feel like the No7 Christmas gifts are definitely good value for money. We got shown that you don't pay extra for the packaging. For example, you can get a Nail Varnish in a sparkly star-shaped box (that you could then use as a cute little trinket box after) for just £6 which is the Nail Varnish's original price.

And then, there's one of No7's most anticipated products, their beauty advent calendar! I'd personally only started hearing about beauty advent calendars last year so I've never really come across this but it's won many awards for being the number 1 beauty calendar! It retails at a price of just £38 and holds products that all together are worth £148. That's such a huge discount and it's so popular that there's even a waiting list, so if you want one then get in there quick!

Just before leaving I was given a a goodie bag which included a few samples and even some little treats like an Essie nail varnish!

We were also given the chance to choose any full sized product of our choice. Trust me, it took me a while to decide! But in the end I chose to go with the Hydration Mask from the Beautiful Skin range. I might do a review on that one so keep your eyes peeled.

Over all I absolutely loved my first No7 event at Boots and it's always good to catch up with some of the gorgeous north east bloggers! Thanks again to the ladies at No7 for hosting a fab event!

Have you ever tried anything from No7? If so, what did you think?

Review | Cohorted Beauty Box

I'd seen bloggers raving about beauty boxes but I never really saw the big fuss as I just thought to myself 'what's the point in buying random make up I don't need and didn't even pick out myself'. However, when I discovered Cohorted's Beauty Box, everything changed.

First of all, I loved the fact that they included high-end beauty brands in their boxes such as Nars, Urban Decay, Gucci and Bare Minerals to name a few. Another thing that drew me in was the price.

When I opened my box I was presented with a sheet saying that the products in the box had a value of over £70 all together and what did I pay? Just over £20! Amazing!

The first thing that caught my eye was the Nars lip pencil. I've never had a product by Nars before but have wanted something for so long after hearing so many good reviews about their products! Plus, I don't really know anywhere in my area that sells Nars, so I was so pleased!

This is the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, shade - Walkyrie.

The pencil is so pigmented and applies like a dream, love love love!

Two little bottles were also included which were a Molton Brown bath and shower gel and a Gucci shower gel. I can't wait to use these and be smelling lovely all day.

Saving the best till last, I also got these two beauties!

I've never heard of 'The Balm' before but when I got the 'Nude'Tude' eyeshadow palette I did recognise the packaging so I must have seen it on Instagram or something somewhere!

I love that you get an eye primer included and the eyeshadow colours are absolutely gorgeous!

There's a mix of mattes and metallics and I just adore the packaging, it's vintage but modern at the same time.

Overall, I've loved my first cohorted box, so much so that I've pre-ordered October's! If you'd like to check out the beauty boxes yourself and grab one then here's the website - https://www.cohorted.co.uk/beautybox

I can't wait to see what next month's box brings! What about you? Do you get any beauty boxes? Let me know in the comments, I always love to check new things out.
